After a difficult phase that saw him go unsold in the Indian Premier League 2025 auction, Prithvi Shaw is back where it all began. The Indian opener has rejoined Delhi Capitals ahead of the 2026 season and marked his return with an emotional message for fans.
Shaw arrived at the Arun Jaitley Stadium to link up with the DC squad, signalling a fresh start after a challenging year. His previous stint with the franchise came to an end after seven seasons when Delhi released him ahead of the 2025 auction. The 26-year-old then went unsold, with even his former team opting not to bid for him.

His wait for an IPL return extended into the 2026 auction as well, where he remained unpicked in the main rounds. However, fortunes finally turned in the accelerated phase, as Delhi Capitals brought him back for ₹75 lakh.
Welcoming him home, DC shared a video on social media with the caption, “Our boy is back home.”
In the video, Shaw reflected on his journey with the franchise, saying:
“You don’t forget a place like Kotla. Not the noise. Not the silence. Not what it made you. Some stories don’t end… they come back. Delhi, your boy is home.”
Shaw’s IPL journey began with Delhi in 2018, shortly after he captained India to the U-19 World Cup title. He was picked for ₹1.2 crore and went on to play 79 matches for the franchise, scoring 1,892 runs at an average of 23.5, including 14 half-centuries.
Delhi Capitals narrowly missed out on the playoffs last season, finishing fifth with seven wins in 14 matches. Still chasing their maiden IPL title, the franchise will be hoping Shaw’s return adds depth to their batting unit.
DC are set to begin their IPL 2026 campaign against Lucknow Super Giants on April 1 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
